Course objectives

Follow the transmission of the text from Basra to the schools of the Maghreb.
Analyse verses of poetry and of the Qurʾān according to the grammarians' method.

The beginnings of reflection on language: Qurʾānic reading, ancient poetry, the first categories.

A book with no introduction and no declared plan: understanding the implicit order of a masterpiece.

How the Kitāb travels, is commented upon and is taught in Kairouan, Cordoba and Fez.

Methodical application to short texts: one passage fully analysed each session.
